Dr. Sundermann meets with resort guests individually and provides tailored lifestyle medical consultations and personalized medical testing if requested. Dr. Sundermann also leads weekly presentations on lifestyle medicine-related topics and likes to interact with guests on “healthy hikes.” She is passionate about educating guests on the “pillars” of Lifestyle Medicine. These include plant-forward nutrition, exercise/movement, stress management, making healthy and conscious decisions, better sleep habits, social connection, and daily exposure to nature and fresh air.

Before joining our Health & Performance team at Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires, Dr. Sundermann practiced medicine for more than 20 years in hospitals and clinics. She also worked for large healthcare and academic institutions, such as The University of Michigan, Beaumont Health, and Trinity Health. Within all environments, Dr. Sundermann was (and still is) passionate about not only preventing chronic diseases such as hypertension, heart disease, dementia, obesity, and diabetes but also potentially reversing or achieving remission of these diseases. She also has a strong interest in women’s health, including menopause, disordered eating, nature and movement as medicine, and brain health.

When not with patients, Dr. Sundermann can often be found outside running, biking, hiking, skiing, camping, or walking her dogs. She loves to travel and create adventures with her husband and two young adult children. A fun fact about Dr. Sundermann is that she’s quite the athlete. She recently qualified for her 11th Boston Marathon and has completed three Full Ironman Triathlons, one 100-mile-mountain biking race, and competes in 50K “Ultra-Running” events around the country.

Her favorite words of wisdom? “Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better.”— Albert Einstein
