Ayurvedic Body Treatments

Ayurveda is the traditional healing system of India – one of the world’s oldest. Like traditional Chinese practice, ayurveda is based on the idea of restoring balance to the whole person.

Abhyanga

Abhyanga, loosely translated, means “attending to a part of the body in the present moment.” A therapist performs this full-body ayurvedic-style massage using warm sesame oil. Marmas, or subtle points of energy, are addressed on the face and feet to balance body, mind and spirit. This traditional therapy releases toxins, enhances immunity, nourishes the skin and creates deep relaxation.

Bindi-Shirodhara

Quiet your mind, nourish your body and refresh your spirit with this transformative experience. It begins with the application and removal of an exfoliating mask of salts, herbs and oils, followed by a rhythmic ayurvedic massage with oils selected for your body type (dosha). An Indian balancing bowl is used on your feet in a sequence that brings all elements within you into balance. This powerful combination cleanses and detoxifies to enhance immune function while rejuvenating the skin. Traditional marma points are addressed on your face and head to balance your body’s energy systems. The therapist pours a gentle stream of warm oil over the third eye and forehead in a soothing pattern, then lightly massages it into the hair and scalp.

Shirodhara

This is a classic ayurvedic treatment designed to induce a state of meditation as it profoundly calms the nervous system. Your forearms, hands, lower legs and feet are massaged in traditional fashion. An Indian balancing bowl is used on your feet, and marma points are addressed to balance the energies of the body. The therapist directs a stream of warm herb-infused oil over the third eye and forehead to de-stress the mind and emotions, then massages the oil into hair and scalp, which nourishes as it soothes.
