Tucson Dining Room Makeover

When you come to Canyon Ranch, we want every part of your experience to feel like home. Maybe even better! That’s why I’m so proud of our recent dining room renovations in Tucson. It’s never been more beautiful or welcoming, and it took a village to do it!
Guests have been telling me how much they love the brighter, more spacious feel of the dining room. While I thank them, I can promise you I never painted a wall or picked up a hammer! From the beginning I worked with a great designer and our own amazing construction crew, purchasing wizards, dining room staff and other enthusiastic helpers. They all deserve credit for tying together style, utility and a real Canyon Ranch feeling. This was especially important in a setting with so much history.
The Tucson resort was our first Canyon Ranch baby back in 1979, and we made a commitment then to keep the warmth of the old dude ranch it had once been. We’ve kept plenty of authentic features and renovated the Clubhouse living room last fall to reflect its heritage. The trick with the dining room was to create a fresh, contemporary look that maintained a sense of continuity and legacy.
We listened carefully to suggestions from you, our guests, which included making the space generally brighter. We did this by removing some walls and barriers to give a more open feel, with a clear view out to the lawn in the back. You’ll also notice a new entryway into the space with decorative tables created by one of our talented Ranch carpenters. We chose colors throughout that are esthetically sharp and have a nice, airy feel. Taking your advice, we also added more booths. Our upholstery features a Native American design straight from the Museum of New Mexico, and chairs are covered using four fabrics. The ledge-stone walls add texture and color that fit right into our desert home. (Yes, we had seen beautiful faux stone, but we knew that only the real thing would do for Canyon Ranch.) And wait till you see the checkerboard-patterned coconut-shell tiles on the wall! In addition to being stunning, they mute the noise in the room. What more could we want?
You’ll see gorgeous lighting features here, mosaic tile and too many other details to mention. I will continue to pass along all compliments to the wonderful people who deserve them. And we all send special thanks to the guests who showed patience during the brief construction period and enjoyed our alternate dining arrangements.
We’re not done yet, of course. Look for incredible changes coming soon to Canyon Ranch in Lenox. Our village is gearing up already!
New beverage service to perk up your day in Tucson and Lenox
You asked, we listened! Guests at Tucson and Lenox are welcoming a new addition to the café menu: fruit smoothies, espresso beverages and snacks.
The espresso beans are a custom blend provided by Canyon Ranch coffee roaster Aroma Coffee of Santa Fe. Corporate Chef Scott Uehlein says the new menu items will delight guests and will be available throughout the day at the Double U Café in Tucson and Café Tasse in Lenox.
Small-plate and share-plate fare in Tucson
Chef Scott is pleased to announce Trattoria Locale, a menu of Mediterranean-inspired small and shared plates for dinner at the Double U Café. The new menu, set for launch early this year, features approximately 15 hot and cold palate-pleasers. Featured offerings will make the best use of local, seasonal and organic ingredients while embracing the vegetable, whole-grain and fish-centric Mediterranean gastronomy.
